Heavy rain continues on North QLD Coast

The dramatic late-season heavy rains continued along a relatively small section of the QLD North Coast today, though there were signs that the upper trough primarily responsible was weakening. The heaviest falls for the 24 hours to 9am were around Innisfail, with Daradgee, 6km NW, recording 162.4mm and Central Mill Alert, 10km SW, recording 160. Most of the rain in the 24-hour totals reported below fell yesterday, and only relatively light falls were reported during daylight hours today, but a pulse of heavy rain moved over the Tully/Innisfail area late afternoon and continued in places until early Tuesday morning. In the 12 hours to 3am, Tully Alert recorded 129mm while Jarra Creek about 10km NW recorded 151 and Marco Street, 10km WSW of Innisfail, recorded 84mm. Falls during this time were more generally in the 30 to 80mm range.

Warm in WA

Warm conditions continued for the second day in a row in WA, with most of the southern half of the state experiencing top temperatures in the low to mid 30s, some 6 to 11 above average. Cloud cover accompanying a weak trough kept temperatures in the mid to high 20s roughly west of a line from Geraldton to Albany. Overnight temperatures were exceptionally mild for late April, with many centres in the Great Southern and Central Wheat Belt recording minima around 20°, 6 to 9 above normal.
