Hot in SA
NEWSBITS: Early morning storms bring heavy rain north of Sydney

Hot in SA

A tongue of warm air swept over northern and central SA yesterday and today giving high temperatures as far south as the Eyre Peninsula. Ceduna recorded the highest temperature in the nation, relative to average, both yesterday and today, with tops of 39.3 and 41.4 respectively, some 11 to 13 above average. Last night was an unusually warm one in the state's north, with Marla and Oodnadatta both recording minimum temperatures of 31.8, around 10 above normal.

NEWSBITS

A convergence line in a weak southeasterly stream brought unusual early morning storms as it moved up the coast north from Sydney today. Storms formed off the Sydney coast a little before midnight and drifted across the coast near Gosford around 1am. Of several storm cells, the one that dropped 37.4mm in the hour to 4am on Mangrove Mountain, 15km NNW of Gosford, appears to have been the strongest. As these storm cells weakened between 4 and 5am, a second set of cells fired up from north of Newcastle to Port Macquarie, ultimately dying out just before midday. Krambach, 30km SW of Taree, recorded 51mm in the storm.
