Notes on significant weather not yet written

Significant rainfall, strong winds, strong wind gusts and abnormally high and low temperatures for this day are given below. Descriptions of significant weather events are added here when time permits and reliable information is available. This is sometimes well after the event!

On the 27th flash flooding was reported at Melton. At Shepparton, a storm produced some hail to 2cm, heavy rain (25 mm in 20 minutes recorded at Tatura) and strong winds. A thunderstorm near Traralgon produced heavy rain leading to local flooding. The Princes Highway was cut. Local flooding also occurred at Yea. At Myrtleford, squalls lifted the roof off a tobacco shed. At Lily Creek near Erica in West Gippsland, a thunderstorm produced 25 mm of rain.

Tasmania: On the 27th thunderstorms brought power outages to areas in the north of the State.

Towards the end of the month, an area of heavy rain about the central coast region caused significant heavy falls along the coastal strip from Bowen to Gladstone. Rain was extremely coastal, causing local and flash flooding and general warnings for the coastal rivers and streams were issued. No specific river basin warnings were issued. A total of 68 flood warnings were issued during February.

Flinders River:

River rises with moderate flooding occurred at the end of February in the upstream reaches of the Flinders River in the Marathon to Richmond area.
