Thunderstorms bring some heavy falls to SA
Unseasonable rain off N QLD coast

A deepening trough over southern SA brought some heavy rainfall totals in thunderstorms overnight and today. On the Yorke Peninsula NW of Adelaide, Warooka recorded 55.4 and Edithburgh 46mm from an overnight storm, while further storms late this afternoon brought falls of 10 to 20mm around Adelaide. Yankalilla, in the Mt Lofty Ranges behind Adelaide, recorded 42mm for the 24 hours to 9am Monday.

A convergence line moving northeast through the Coral Sea gave Willis Island its monthly average rainfall for May in two hours today. Willis Island lies 450km NNE of Bowen, and a Bureau of Meteorology manned station has been located on the island for cyclone early-warning purposes since 1921. The long-term average rainfall for May is 76.2mm. The convergence line this afternoon dumped 101mm on the met station between 3 and 9pm, 93mm falling in the 3 hours to 6pm. 27.8mm was recorded in the hour to 4pm with a further 51.4mm in the 58 minutes to 4.58pm.
