Unusually dry and cold in the Alps
Further widespread fog in WA

A 1035hPa High anchored over the NSW Snowy Mountains coupled with very low humidity helped produce the area's lowest minimum temperatures so far this winter this morning. Kosciuszko Chalet at Charlotte Pass recorded a low of -12.5 which follows on from minima of -11.0 for the previous two nights. Exceptionally low humidity, of the order of 5 to 10%, has been a feature of the weather across much of the continent for the past few days, and was especially noticeable at alpine stations in NSW and VIC today. Low dew points included -24.5 at Thredbo Crackenback at 3am (with a temperature of -2.9), -27.4 at 9pm at Falls Creek (+3.7), and -27.4 at 9am on Mt Hotham summit (+3.8). The dry conditions are the result of days of gentle northerlies bringing dry continental air southwards, coupled with the drying effect of descending air within the High.

Fog was again widespread and persistent in WA this morning, though mostly limited to the Central Wheatbelt, Great Southern and Goldfields.
