Cold
nights ease in the SE
Cold
nights across VIC, NSW and southern QLD eased a little
this morning, with frosts contracting to VIC and SE NSW. Mt Seaview,
in
the ranges west of Port Macquarie NSW, broke the minimum temperature
record for November it set two days ago with a reading of 4.2, while
Tocumwal in the Riverina and Tatura, 20km SW of Shepparton VIC both
set new November lows.
WA
lightning sets wheat ablaze
Lightning
from scattered storms in the WA Central Wheat Belt during the early
hours of this morning set fire to a wheat crop at Southern Brook,
20km NE of Northam. Seven fire crews extinguished the blaze after
it had burnt through 4 hectares, though it had at one time threatened
150ha of the crop.
Unusually
severe storms in NT
Thunderstorms
are part of daily living in the NT Top End during the wet season,
but large hail is unusual. A storm at Darwin River,
south of Darwin, this afternoon produced 2.5cm diameter hail.
Another storm caused flash flooding and damage to vegetation
on Melville Island, also during the afternoon. Storms were
also active in the south of the Territory, with a downburst
at Wulungurru, west of Alice Springs, causing wind gusts to
96km/h.
